Laura Massaro, the world no.4, is looking forward to next month’s Allam British Open in Hull with more excitement than usual after taking a two-month break from competitive squash.
The 31-year-old Lancastrian missed the PSL semi-finals and is missing the European Team Championships in order to recharge her batteries after a hectic nine months, and it has increased her anticipation at returning to the scene of her 2013 triumph.
She said: “I am really excited about this year’s Allam British Open. I have fantastic memories of Hull in 2013 and 2014, and from what I hear, this year is going to be even bigger and better.
“I am really enjoying my training after taking a break. This season, from July at the Commonwealth Games, has been so busy for the women. I had a lot of big successes, winning silver in Glasgow and then finally winning the Women’s World Teams in Canada as part of Team England, and I needed to refresh after such a busy period.
“Having a break really makes you appreciate what you do for a living.”
The third seed is drawn to play India’s Joshana Chinappa in the first round at the Airco Arena on May 12th.
