The University of Hull has been confirmed as the host for this year’s Allam British Open Championships pre-qualification event in May.
True to its roots, the British Open is once again ‘open’ to all British players, giving squash enthusiasts a unique chance to be part of the oldest and most prestigious squash event on the world calendar and with it the chance to take their place alongside the PSA and WSA stars.
Tournament Director Chris Nutley commented: “England Squash & Racketball are delighted that our event partner, the University of Hull, has once again agreed to host the pre-qualification event, which will hopefully attract a strong local entry and help us to build awareness and interest within the local community.”
The University Sports Centre will also be home to the British Open qualifying tournament, some of the men’s and women’s main draw first-round matches and a full programme of Masters categories, attracting players from around the world.
Steve Curtis, Sports Development Manager at the University of Hull, commented: “The University of Hull is immensely proud to be playing a bigger role in the Allam British Open Championships. We are excited at the prospect of hosting the qualifying rounds and especially first-round matches in both the men’s and women’s main draws.
“The Allam British Open has become a big part of our annual calendar at the University of Hull. It provides a great opportunity for the full community to see the world’s top players playing on the campus and at the same time creating some fantastic opportunities for our students to volunteer in the event.
“We are also pleased to welcome back the Masters event. The last two years have been fantastic, with so many players from across the world coming together to compete at such a high level. It is a real showcase of a sporting habit for life with an excellent social feel.”
