The event, taking place between 20-26 May, is the first squash tournament to be held within a football stadium and one of the most prestigious sporting events ever to be staged in Hull.
Assem Allam, the Yorkshire-based Egyptian businessman and owner of Allam Marine who signed a three-year sponsorship of the British Open in 2011, always planned to move the event to the home of Hull City FC, the KC stadium and is looking forward to an event of this magnitude taking place in East Yorkshire.
“I believe my sponsorship of the Allam British Open is different to most sports because I am involved not for commercial reasons, but due to my long family association with the sport.
“This year will be even more satisfying because we are bringing the world’s greatest players to Hull and East Yorkshire and so for one week the eyes of the world will be focused on a wonderful sport played at the highest level in a fantastic part of the United Kingdom.”
The world’s best male and female squash players will descend on Yorkshire home to three time champion Nick Matthew and current world number one James Willstrop.
The event promises to be a fantastic spectacle, with the court taking pride of place on the pitch and the stadium transformed to accommodate one of the sports most iconic tournaments.
