Day Five Quick Roundup

SP_1763Day five of the Allam British Open at the KC Stadium in Hull saw four afternoon matches which were all well-contested, with one almost and one real upset.

In the women’s matches Kasey Brown came from two games down to deny qualifier Sarah-Jane Perry 12/10 in the fifth, while Alison Waters finally came through against four-time champion Rachael Grinham in an up and down five-setter.

In the men’s matches, Gregory Gaultier survived a tough opening couple of games before easing through against Saurav Ghosal, and Tarek Momen created a big upset as he beat last year’s semi-finalist Peter Barker in four fast games.

That was the only upset of the day as the evening session featured four quick wins for Joelle King, defending champions Nick Matthew and Nicol David, and finally Karim Darwish, all four matches completed in under the 40-minute mark.

Tomorrow sees the conclusion of round two with four more second round matches in each of the draws.
